2009 New York International Auto Show Part 3/4

In part 3 our look at the 2009 New York International Auto Show, we took a look at the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the GM Segway (officially called the Segway P.U.M.A.), the Bentley Continental Supersports, and the Nissan 370Z NISMO.

Bentley Continental Supersports
We pretty much said it all in the video: most powerful, fastest and greenest Bentley of all time! Have your stupendous power and be kind to the planet at the same time, courtesy of the engine’s flexibility to run on ethanol.  The Supersports is some 200lb lighter than the regular Conti, in part due to the removal of the rear seats; you’ll just have to do with not terrifying little Johnny as you stretch your Bentley’s legs. The FlexFuel technology will be introduced throughout the Bentley range by 2012.

Here are the mouth-watering details:

Engine: 6.0L, twin-turbo W12
Horsepower:    621 @ 6000rpm
Torque (lb.-ft): 590lb-ft @ 1700 to 5600rpm
Top speed: 204mph
0 – 60mph: 3.7 seconds

Segway’s P.U.M.A. (Personal Urban Mobility & Accessibility)
So, the inventiveness of this product is not in question; we just wondered whether GM should be spending any time on this while it has bigger fires to put out. GM was at pains to remind us this is just an experimental vehicle that would find its way to environments such as college campuses.

Nissan 370Z NISMO
This is an already great sports car made even better. NISMO, the motorsport arm of Nissan, has taken the 370Z and squeezed more power from the engine, uprated the brakes, and tuned the suspension for track use. This special Z is good for 350hp and 276lb.-ft of orque from its 3.7L V6.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe:
The Genesis Coupe is an eye-catching addition to the Hyundai lineup. To my eyes, it is the best-looking shape Hyundai has put on the market, but Jacobs the Intern was not too excited by it, calling the design “derivative”. Pardon the brain fade, I compared this to the Nissan 350Z in the video, whereas I should have said 370Z. Regardless, the Genesis is a lot of car for the money:

Genesis Coupe 2.0T
Price: Starting at $22,000
Engine: 2.0L turbocharged inline 4
Horsepower:  210 @ 6000rpm
Torque (lb.-ft): 223 @ 2000rpm

Genesis Coupe 3.8
Price: Stating at $25,000
Engine: 3.8L V6
Horsepower: 306 @ 6300rpm
Torque (lb.-ft): 266 @ 4700rpm

Hi Joseph, we did not get to cover the Koenigsegg - hopefully we can come out to Universal one of these days and cover it properly.
