A Golf in wolf’s clothing?

I suppose that I have to give grudging congratulations to Volkswagen's MK VI Golf as it was voted World Car of the Year during a ceremony at this year's New York Auto Show, cruelly robbing the fantastic Ford Fiesta of what is probably the most prestigious award in the world as, unlike other 'Car of the Year' awards (which are usually nation or continent specific, or at least affiliated to some sort of automotive media) the World Car of the Year award is entirely independent and voted for by a jury of 59 automotive journalists from 22 different countries around the world (though Hootan’s and my invite to the panel somehow got lost in the post this year).
But when I heard the results this year, I could not help but think about the new VW Scirocco (which is based on the Golf GTI platform) and wondered what could have been.
For a moment, I’d just like you to think about it like this: imagine the two beautiful sisters that live next door to you. The first one, the Golf, certainly does not wear ‘granny pants’, has a lot going for her and you know that she is going to be reliable and stand by you through thick and thin. But then there is the second sister, the Scirocco. The sexier sibling wears the same sexy underwear as its GTI sister but also benefits from the talented engineers’ touch plastic surgery up top….the automotive equivalent of bigger breasts and bottle-blonde hair.
So, which sister do you go for? Is it the Golf, the one you could grow old with, which in the long term may be a better drive, will be more comfortable and also practical, with its rear seats? Or do you go for the Scirocco, which might not always be easy to live with but is certainly going to get your blood racing on the open road and attract longing stares wherever you go?

It’s certainly a tough choice: head or heart. But in the end, I think I would have gone for the Scirrocco as a more fitting World Car of the Year if it had to go to the Germans rather than the mighty Ford. But there again, at least we can all sleep soundly at night knowing that the roller skate-looking wannabe, the Toyota IQ, didn’t win.
Love ,
Uncle Mark

Touch choice, but I'd probably go with the Scirocco, despite my inner pragmatist's protest. The extra cost is worth the rush in blood.
BTW I love the design of the blog, it really smooth and conducive to browsing.
well, preaching to the choir here: an extra rush of blood is ALWAYS worth extra moolah!
And many thanks for the compliment, our designer will be happy to hear it.
