VIDEO: Jay Leno drives the Aptera plane-ish car

This is the first time we have covered the Aptera 2e here in the pages of rightpedal. This is partly because we have not quite known what to think of the three-wheeled lovechild of a small airplane and a motorcycle.

Thanks to Jay Leno, we now have a better idea of the Aptera is all about. In fact, as you will hear in the video, the airplane connection is not so far-fetched: at a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.15. the Aptera is significantly more slippery through the wind than even the most sleek car from a major manufacturer. The low Cd figure translated directly to fuel efficiency.

The Aptera 2e will be all-electric with a claimed range of over 100 mpg, and it will be followed by a plug-in hybrid, the 2h. Aptera is aiming to price the car $20,000 and $40,000, depending on drive train specifications.
