Saab is finally replacing the 9-5

After 13 long years in production, the Saab 9-5 will finally be replaced by an all-new model next spring. The car shown here is in final production form and will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show this September. The new 9-5 will be offered with a series of engines ranging from a turbocharged 2.8L V6 to a four-cylinder diesel. Buyers will also have a choice between a standard and premium suspension, as well as four wheel drive.

A new car launch is always an important milestone for any company, but this launch will mean quite a lot to the defiant, quirky Saab, which will be left to its own devices by GM as of January 2010 and which, like GM, is currently in bankruptcy mode. There has been talk of Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg taking over Saab, but no deal has been struck yet.
