SCOOP: 2010 Jaguar XJ renderings

While we anxiously await the unveiling of the new version of Jaguar's bread-and-butter model, the XJ, on 9 July 2009, we are bringing you an artist's rendering of what the car will look like, courtesy of UK's Car. Apparently, these pictures are very, very close to the final product (the top-view is actually an official Jaguar teaser picture).

In keeping with Jaguar's recent engineering practices, the new XJ's construction will be aluminum-intensive for the lightest possible result. The new Jag will reportedly weigh less than 3800 lb. According to Car, the diesel version of the new XJ, combined with the performance gains expected from such lightweight construction, will make the car the least CO2-emitting luxury saloon in its class, including the Lexus LS600h hybrid car.

At launch, the XJ will offer the following engine choices. However, as part of a national project to develop hybrid powerplants, Jaguar is expected to add such a powertrain to the lineup in the coming years.

• 3.0-litre V6 gasoline, 235hp
• 5.0-litre V8 gasoline, 380bhp
• 5.0-litre V8 supercharged gasoline, 503hp
• 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel in 237hp and 271hp spec
