VIDEO: Lotus Evora seriously impresses all comers

It has been a long time coming, but Lotus has finally brought a brilliant new car to the market. The famed English company, known for making some of the best-handling cars in the world, relied too heavily on its Elise and Elise-derived Exige models over the last 15 years. Those cars have been extremely popular with hard-core drivers but were never the most comfortable and practical rides around.

Enter the Lotus Evora, a Toyota Camry engine-powered 2+2 machine that in my opinion will propel Lotus to new heights in this market....unless the $85,000 price tag turns people off. Before you discount the car for using a Toyota engine, you should know that Lotus has 'fiddled' with the engine in order to give it a suitably sporting character. The Toyota connection also gives Lotus a reliable technical partner for future R&D collaborations, one who will reportedly supply Lotus with a V10 for the upcoming Esprit. By all accounts, the Evora is a mini-supercar, a spiritual successor the similarly-expensive Acura NS-X.

The Evora is being directly compared to the Porsche Boxster S in the motoring press, but as you can see in these videos from TopGear and iMotor, Lotus might have its main rival beat overall.

If you want to stay updated on the US-market Evora, make sure to sign up on the site. In the meantime, here are some vital statistics for you:
