VIDEO: New Jaguar XJ in motion
My previous post on the all-new Jaguar XJ sparked spirited debate between me and my friends on whether the new car was good-looking or not. Opinion seems to be divided around the world, which Jaguar probably likes as much as BMW did the conversations when it released the first Bangle-butt car, the 2002 7-Series. You see, the XJ is now a design talking point, free publicity that Jaguar does not have to subsidize.
To follow up on the last post, here is a better video edited by the guys over at worldcarfans.com, with great shots of the interior as well as of the car in motion. Let the debates rage on.....

The car strikes me as being much less traditionally English than the historic XJs. From the perspective of a traditionalist, I might be sorry to see this go. From a detached point of view -- judging the car less from history than contemporary standards, I find it to be appealing, if somewhat too similar to other designs out there today. At first glance, I feel Jaguar would have been better served if its departure away from traditional design had been in a direction similarly way from collective design standards and trends.
Good analysis Michael. Jaguar was too locked into the old shape and needed to innovate. However, in so doing, it has completely erased its historic and classic design language. I guess the sales figures will provide a good verdict.
