VIDEO: Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Ralliart

In the deliciously fierce, rallying-based showroom battle between Mitsubishi and Subaru, we had gotten used to most Subaru Imprezas coming in hatchback form these days while Mitsubishi's Lancer stayed true to sedan form.

Now, in a direct attack on the Subaru Impreza 2.5 GT, Mitsubishi has launched the hatchback Lancer Sportback Ralliart, what it calls its most European Mitsubishi (the car was in fact styled in the company's European design studios).

The folks at Edmunds' InsideLine have conducted a test of the new Mitsubishi, the video portion of which is presented here. The Ralliart is heavier than its Subaru rival but it trumps it in both horsepower and torque departments.

So, tell us, if you had to buy a Japanese hot hatch, which one would you buy? Here are some quick figures for you.

Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback Ralliart
Engine: 2.0L turbocharged inline-4
Power: 237 hp
Torque: 250 lb-ft

Subaru Impreza 2.5 GT
Engine: 2.5L 4-cylinder Boxer engine
Power: 224 hp
Torque: 226 lb-ft
