SCOOP: Jaguar XE to battle Porsche Boxster/Cayman

British magazine Car has uncovered future Jaguar product plans that shed light on a brand new coupe and roadster pair aimed directly at the Porsche Cayman and Boxster. Planned for 2013, the new car will be called the XE and will fall below the XK coupe and convertible in the company's model hierarchy.

The XE cars will be built on a new, lightweight aluminum alloy chassis that will also serve as the underpinnings for future XK, XF and XJ models. The architecture will be front engine/rear wheel drive, which should serve as an assurance for driving enthusiasts.

Jaguar plans to power the XE with a 275 bhp V6, with a 350 bhp supercharged version planned for the more up-market R model. This month's issue of Car will have more details on this exciting scoop.
