VIDEO: Random GT-R goodie to serve an obsession

Admittedly, I tend to get obsessive about certain things in life. It was an obsession with cars that led me to get out of pre-med studies in order to become an automotive engineer, and it was that same obsession that led me to start rightpedal.

Of late, I have had another obsession: the Nissan GT-R. Ever since seeing one at a Cars & Coffee event in Las Vegas two months ago, I have wanted one so badly it hurts. In fact, I took a picture of said GT-R on my iPhone and unbeknownst to the owner, the dude’s car now serves as my phone’s wallpaper.

Maybe it’s that my first car was a Nissan (Sentra SE-R, ‘the BMW 2002 of the nineties’ as Car and Driver called it). Or maybe it’s that I like David vs. Goliath stories. I just think it’s cool that Nissan can sell a car for $80K that unlike the Acura NS-X, can actually claim the supercar moniker by beating cars double – or more – its price.

Every time I see one on the road, I am overcome by its Darth Vader-like silhouette and its Rottweiler-like stance. Let's not even get into the gizmo-wizardry going on inside that could occupy any gearhead worth his salt with 17 years of discovery. The most amazing thing about the GT-R, though, is how, contrary to all expectations, Nissan has apparently managed to make all this technology feel organic and thus, avoid deleting any soul out of this technological tour-de-force of a car.

It is within the above context that I post for you this totally gratuitous old video of Jeremy Clarkson being injured by an early GT-R in Japan. There, I feel better now.
