BREAKING: MINI Coupe concept celebrates 50 years of MINI

BMW Group has revealed this surprising little devil to celebrate MINI’s 50th anniversary. It was exactly 50 years ago today that the first Mini bowed in and changed the rules of small car design forever. The MINI Coupe concept will be shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show as just that – a concept. However, positive public reaction might actually prompt MINI to build this coupe. It looks too production ready for it to be just a PR exercise.

The Coupe features the 208 hp, 192 lb-ft 1.6L turbocharged four cylinder engine from the John Cooper Works. The aluminum roof makes the car lighter than a regular MINI and gives it a lower center of gravity, all in service of superior driving dynamics.

Besides its wild shape, the Coupe concept stands out from its current production siblings through the use of a body-colored grill, color inserts on the wheels, and a trick rear diffuser.

On the inside, the concept is well-appointed, including additions like the two Chronoswiss clocks installed around the rev counter, one for measuring lap times and the other for displaying the time. The Coupe remains as practical as possible, with its hatch opening right at the diffuser.

MINI lovers, please tell us what you think of this concept in the comments section below!
