VIDEO: 550 hp, V10 Lexus LF-A at the Nürburgring

A couple of days ago, my Nissan GT-R video post started a heated bench-racing discussion between me and two loyal rightpedal readers. The discussion centered around how the Lexus LF-A would stack up against the Nissan GT-R when it finally makes it through its long gestation period and onto the market.

Nissan and Toyota could not have adopted more different approaches: twin-turbo 480 hp V6 for the Nissan in a body built with fairly conventional materials, versus a 550 hp naturally-aspirated V10 built placed in an aluminum/carbon fiber-heavy body for the Lexus. One of the readers insisted that the Lexus will not be worth double+ the price of the GT-R (it is expected to cost around $200,000) and that Toyota should leave sports cars to Nissan. We shall see how this delicious battle pans out.

In the meantime, yet ANOTHER Nürburgring video. No, we will never tire of posting Nürburgring videos. In this one, Toyota driver Takayuki Kinoshita pushes an LF-A prototype around the track while commenting in Japanese (lucky for those of you who know the language – tell us what he’s saying)! He is not attempting a track record, as evidenced by him passing much slower traffic during his run. What is undeniable is how great that engine sounds, something the GT-R cannot quite equal no matter how hard it tries. Enjoy!
