Alonso confirmed at Ferrari in 2010

After months of speculation, two-time F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso has been confirmed as a Ferrari driver starting next season. Alonso, who has signed a three-year contract with the Maranello squad and will reportedly be the highest-paid driver in the field, replaces Kimi Raikonnen and will therefore partner injured driver Felipe Massa. Alonso stated,

"Driving a single-seater from the Prancing Horse is everybody’s dream in this sport and today I have the opportunity to make this dream come true. Above all I want to thank Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, who really wanted this three-year contract. We already had an agreement this summer starting in 2011, but then, the last days, the picture changed and we decided to bring forward my arrival in Maranello by one year.”

Alonso's move will set off a chain reaction in the F1 driver's market. Kimi Raikonnen is set to make a dramatic return to his old team, McLaren. If this happens, Lewis Hamilton will once again have a formidable inter-team rival to contend with, one who will be motivated to show his worth to Ferrari. Other rumors swirling around have Nico Rosberg moving to championship leader Brawn and highly-rated Kubica replacing Alonso at Renault.

Frankly, we can hardly wait to see Alonso strut his stuff at Ferrari. He is regarded as the most complete driver in F1, has Schumacher-like focus, and his Latin temperament will fit in nicely with Ferrari's culture as well as that of his teammate, Massa.
