Honda unveils the CR-Z, world's first hybrid sports car

Well, almost. While it was anticipated that Honda would unveil the full production version of the CR-Z concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, it has instead revealed this 'production concept' that is almost ready to hit the showrooms. For all practical purposes, you can assume you are looking at the final car.

The CR-Z, which can be considered the world's first hybrid sports car, features a 1.5L i-VTEC unit that will likely generate 135 hp when coupled with an electric motor. While the car's performance will only be adequate, meaning 0-60 mph in around nine seconds, its fuel consumption will better that of the Insight. The CR-Z employs a manual 6-speed transmission, so let us hope it drives better than the universally-panned Insight.

The final production version will be shown to the world at the Detroit auto show in January.
