VIDEO: BMW unveils hardcore M3 GTS

Well, we (car blogs) all guessed wrong when we reported that the arrival of a BMW M3 CSL was imminent. But we were not too far off, as BMW has in fact unveiled a hardcore version of the M3. It is called the GTS and while it is road-legal, it is really a weekend clubsport racer.

The car comes replete with loud "look at how fast I am" bits like the front splitter and a massive, fixed rear wing, but according to the BMW M-Power site spotlighting the car, the real delight is the engine. The 4.4L V8 is good for a whopping 450 hp which along with a weight of only 3285 lbs. (419 lbs. less than that of a base M3), should make for a startlingly quick car. Lucky owners can play with those horses using a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

As for other goodies, the GTS has enough to have real race cred: chassis adjustability for compression and rebound, fixed caliper brake units with six pistons at the front and four at the rear, titanium rear silencer, and adjustable front and rear aerodynamics. Of course, the GTS comes equipped with 6-point seatbelts for the racing bucket seats and a bolted roll-over cage.

Price will be a cool $170,000 for those serious BMW racers. Considering its almost rightpedal-orange paint, maybe this would make a great company car for us!
