Volvo aims at BMW 3-Series with new S60

Four months ahead of an official debut, Volvo has released pictures of its all-new S60, a car it calls the “sportiest and most dynamic Volvo ever.” It is understood that this official sneak-peak is meant to bolster the company's sale Chinese Geely, whom Ford has already dubbed the favored suitor for the sale.

Volvo has reportedly changed the S60's positioning to compete more directly with BMW's class-leading 3-Series. The new car is a bit smaller than its predecessor, which was sized between a 3-series and 5-series. Volvo is being very coy about the car's tehchnical details, but we do know that the new S60 is built on the Ford EUCD platform, which underpins the European Mondeo. The car's styling is based on the S60 concept shown at the January Detroit Auto Show.

"The all-new Volvo S60 is sculpted to move you," says Volvo's CEO, Stephen Odell. "The customers in this segment want emotional appeal, sporty design and dynamic driving properties. The S60 has it all." Let us wait and see whether the marketplace agrees.
