Cadillac will build the electric Converj coupe

Earlier this year at the New York Auto Show, the rightpedal team noticed a pretty good-looking concept car at the Cadillac stand. Our reaction was first, “what the heck is that?” and then, “who cares, they should build it.” Turns out the car in question is the Cadillac version of the Chevrolet Volt, the Converj. In other words, a handsome (yes, it’s even better looking in person) Caddy that will run under electric power, complemented by an engine acting as a generator.

While the Converj has been a concept thus far, Cadillac is reportedly going to build it. This is smart move, not only because every car maker on the planet is trying to go green, but also because the expensive technology pioneered by the Volt (which will cost around $40,000) can better be sold as a premium concept. Manufacturers like BMW are treating hybrid almost as a premium selling point, making “green” the new “posh.”

Details are obviously scant on the Converj, but we will bring you more news as we get it.
